Our Story
Our hearts are heavy as we see the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene on communities in Appalachia. Your support will be crucial in the days, weeks, and months ahead as hundreds of organizations step in to assist with disaster recovery efforts.
One way you can provide assistance is by supporting the Appalachia Shower Project. A team is constructing mobile shower units in Charlotte, North Carolina that will be deployed throughout Appalachia to serve areas without access to water, electricity or both.
We need volunteers to help with construction and financial support to stock trailers with needed supplies.
The need is great, but with your help we can bring warm showers and hope to communities both immediately and in the months to come.

Donate today
We welcome and need financial contributions and in-kind donations. You will be redirected to donate through our partners at Appalachia Service Project. All donations collected in excess of what is required to complete shower trailers will be donated to the Appalachia Service Project to support their recovery and rebuilding efforts in Appalachia. Donations are tax deductible, and we thank you for your support!

Frequently Asked Questions
For further information please email us at appalachiashowerproject@gmail.com.
Is this project connected with an established charitable organization?
Yes, this is a project of the Appalachia Service Project (https://asphome.org/), an organization that has been making homes warmer, safer, and drier in Appalachia for over 50 years. In recent years, ASP has expanded that outreach to include disaster recovery initiatives.
Is there an age requirement to participate in construction?
Yes, participants must have completed the 6th grade.
Do I need to sign up to volunteer?
Yes, there is a Sign-Up Genius for volunteers a the link here. Each volunteer will need to sign up for a specific time slot. There is also a Wavier that will have to be signed by each volunteer.
Do I need to be highly skilled to help with construction?
No, there will be tasks that require a wide range of abilities.
I have a large group who would like to participate. Can I just sign them up under one slot?
No, for safety reasons and to ensure that everyone has work to do throughout their shift, we ask that volunteers sign up individually.
What will happen to these mobile showers when they are not being used in disaster recovery?
The mobile shower units will be used by the Appalachia Service Project at volunteer centers throughout the year, particularly for their summer youth program.
I really want to support this project but cannot participate in construction. What is the best way for me to help?
Thank you for your support! We welcome and need financial contributions and in-kind donations. Online donations may be made at https://asphome.org/showerproject/. For donation questions, please contact appalachiashowerproject@gmail.com.
Can I request that a mobile shower unit be deployed to a specific location?
No, but we are working with several non-profits and local organizations to determine where mobile shower units should be deployed initially. Please email us to let us know if you think you have identified a location.
Are other organizations partnering with you on this project?
Yes, we have been overwhelmed by the enormous generosity of many organizations, both local and national, including Lowes Home Improvement, Charlotte Community ToolBank, Arc Document Solutions, and many others. See a full list of partners here.
What will you do with money collected in excess of what is needed to complete the shower trailers?
Any funds remaining once construction on the shower trailers is complete will be donated directly to the Appalachia Shower Project to support their continued work in recovery and rebuilding in Appalachia.
